چکیده

Blankenship, L. C. (Eastern Utilization Research and Development Division, Washington D.C.), and M. J. Pallansch. Differential analysis of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups of intact spores. J. Bacteriol. 92:1615-1617. 1966.-Fluorescence quenching of fluorescein mercuric acetate in alkaline medium (1 n NaOH) was found to be an accurate, sensitive method for differential analysis of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups of intact bacterial spores. Disulfide content of three species of spores was found to be slightly higher than reported by other workers. A significant increase in sulfhydryl group concentration was observed after physiological germination, indicating participation of a disulfide-reducing system in the germination process.

Levels of acetyl coenzyme A, reduced and oxidized coenzyme A, and coenzyme A in disulfide linkage to protein in dormant and germinated spores and growing and sporulating cells of Bacillus megaterium.

Dormant spores of Bacillus megaterium were found to contain approximately 850 pmol of coenzyme A (CoA) per milligram of dry weight. Of this total, less than 1.5% was acetyl-CoA, 25% was CoA-disulfide, 43% was in disulfide linkage to protein, and the remainder was the free thiol. Dormand spores of Bacillus cereus and Clostridium bifermentans contained 700 and 600 pmol of CoA per milligram of dry...

The Effect of Bug Damage on Physicochemical, Electrophoretic and Quality Factors of Wheat Gluten

One of the most important forms of preharvest damage to wheat is caused by sunn pests. The insects insert their mouth parts into the immature grain and while injecting their saliva suck the milky juices. Flour from damaged wheat results in low baking performance due to the bug proteolytic enzymes’ injected which cause the breakdown of gluten structure in the dough. In the present study three wh...

Assignment of a single disulfide bridge in rat liver methionine adenosyltransferase.

Rat liver methionine adenosyltransferase incorporated 8 mol of N-ethylmaleimide per mol of subunit upon denaturation in the presence of 8 M urea, whereas 10 such groups were labelled when dithiothreitol was also included. This observation prompted a re-examination of the state of the thiol groups, which was carried out using peptide mapping, amino acid analysis and N-terminal sequencing. The re...

Effect of storage on sulfhydryl and disulfide groups of human platelets.

Free sulfhydryl and disulfide groups of an acid-soluble and acid-precipitable fraction and of isolated plasma membranes were quantified in fresh and stored human platelets. Fresh platelets contained 26.6 X 10 moles of total thiols including hee sulfhydryl and disulfide groups per iO cells. One-third of these thiols were present as disulfides. Acid-soluble thiols accounted for one-tenth of the t...
